Tuesday, Oct. 3, 8 am, FCE-U - Hosner Mt. Rd.
to NY 301, New York, Appalachian Trail
Meet in the commuter parking lot in Burlington adjacent to the
Burlington Library & Little League Field. Pack plenty of food and water for
this 10.3 mile moderate hike on the AT in New York. Anticipate a 6:30 pm return

Tuesday, Oct. 3, 9 am, LH - Sweetheart Mtn. or
Foundland/Huckleberry Hills
Meet at Unionville's Stop&Shop parking lot (Friendly's side). We'll
decide then where to go (for only about 2 hours.) L: Diana Meyer

Thursday, October 5, 8:45am, FCE - Metacomet
Trail/Will Warren's Den, Farmington
Meet on Pinnacle Rd. opposite Reservoir Rd. (off Rt. 6 in Farmington just
west of the Tomasso gravel operation). This is a pleasant trail with some
moderate ups and downs. Bring large plastic trash bag to slide on and a
flashlight if you want to go into the narrow cave entrance for the maximum

Albany Post Rd., New York, AT
Meet in the parking lot at Highland Park Market on Rt. 10 (Post
Office Square) in Farmington. Pack plenty of food and water for this 9.1 mile
moderate hike on the AT in New York. Anticipate a 6:30 pm return time to

Black Rock - Mattatuck Trail - Watertown.
Meet @ Unionville's Stop & Shop, Friendly's side. Expect to return

Wednesday, October 11, 9 am, LH
- East Peak - Metacomet Trail -
Meriden.
Meet @ Unionville's Stop & Shop. We will carpool to Hubbard Park,
Meriden, and take a different trail up to Castle Craig and its views. Bring
lunch. You never know; we might mosey on over to West Peak as well. Expect to

Thursday, October 12, 8:45am, FCE - Tunxis
Multi-color Loop, Burlington
This loop includes the main line, red, & purple-dot Tunxis trails.
Because of the trail closure due to the housing development, we will walk some roads, but
there are big new houses to view. Turn S off Rt. 4 at the blinker on Punch Brook
Rd. (opposite Barnes Hill), which is about 0.5 mile W of Rt. 179 traffic light.
Ryan's Way is 2nd right - park a short way down alongside wooded area. L: Len

Sunday, Oct 15, 9am, PSF, Driving tour of Iron
industry sites in Northwestern CT
Visit the Beckley Furnace, Falls Village, Riga Furnace, and site of the Ore
Hill mine. Meet at Matthies Grove (main picnic area) at Peoples State Forest. Bring
water, lunch and insect spray. Heavy rain cancels. Estimated time of return is 4

Sunday, October 15, 1:30pm. SG, East End Hike
On seldom-visited trails, including a special letter-boxing event. All hikes
are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping
Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden,
about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable,
supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Post Rd. to Bear Mt. Bridge, New York AT postponed due to
weather

Satan's Kingdom, New Hartford
Park in the lot at Satan's Kingdom Recreation area on Rt. 44 just west of the
bridge that goes over the Farmington River in New Hartford, NW of Canton. We

Devil's Kitchen, Burlington
Meet at Scoville Rd at Rt. 69, opposite Lamson Corner Cemetery in Burlington. We
will hike a 4.6 mile loop section of the Tunxis Trail, which will include the
"Devil's Kitchen," which is actually a beautiful box canyon. L: Len

Saturday, Oct 28, 9am, PSF, Nepaug Forest.
Hike is cancelled because of rain and wind forecast.
Will be rescheduled next year.
Explore Native American, historical, and glacial sites. Meet at Matthies Grove (main picnic area) at Peoples State Forest. Bring
water and insect spray. Heavy rain cancels. We will be walking about 3 miles of
varied terrain, uneven ground, with sections of off trail hiking. Relaxed pace,

Saturday, October 28, 10am, SC, Foliage Hike -
Cockaponset State Forest
Crunch through the leaves on a loop trail, with lunch by Pataconk Lake in
Chester. We'll hike in peak foliage at a medium pace, 5.7 miles over mostly easy
terrain, with only a few short steep parts. Members and non-members welcome.
Bring boots, lunch, water. No need to register. Rain-date October 29. Leave from
the Park & Ride lot at exit 6 off Rt. 9 in Chester. Questions? L: Ken

spot--Lion's Head to the Undermountain Trail. Anticipate a 3 pm return time..
